Special initiatives
Teach For America recently launched three initiatives to help address some of the most critical needs in education, in the United States and around the world:
- Early childhood education initiative: Given the power of early intervention to tackle the achievement gap before it widens to three or four grade levels, Teach For America launched a national early childhood education initiative in 2006 to bring increasing numbers of outstanding pre-K teachers to our country’s lowest income communities. After spending two years in the pre-K classroom, these individuals, from all academic majors and interests, will continue their work to eliminate educational inequity as leaders in early childhood education or other sectors. - Math and science initiative: Recognizing the urgent need for excellent math and science education in this country, we launched a campaign in 2004 to bring more outstanding math and science teachers to low-income communities. In the 2009-2010 school year, more than 2,000 corps members are teaching math and science to more than 125,000 students. We project that this number will increase to 3,600 by 2015. Read more
- Teach For All: Teach For America and Teach First, the adaptation of Teach For America in the United Kingdom, collaborated to create Teach For All in response to requests for support from social entrepreneurs around the world who were pursuing expanded educational opportunity in their countries.
